Slapped Silly: Alex Goad Interview’s Dr.Glenn Livingston – the Review Page Slap

My friend and adviser Alex Goad just posted a solid interview to his marketing blog Net Frontier Marketing about Google’s latest slap – the dreaded review page slap. If your an Adwords user this is an interview your going to want to listen to for sure.

I, on the other hand, want you to have access to my free Mini Internet Marketing Course.  So, follow this link today.

From Alex Goad’s Net Frontier Marketing:
On July 21st, Perry Marshall published an email conversation he had with Dr.Glenn Livingston concerning the dramatic quality score devaluation of Affiliate Review Sites containing bare affiliate links.

I interviewed Glenn on the extent of this “slap”, who it affects, how to work around it and some keys to bullet proofing your business for the future…

  1. Still need to set 90 minutes aside to view this. Want to listen to it as I still have Google’s hand print on my face. Actually, I’m testing out your comment luv feature that I learned from your Commission Ritual Course. Just Put up my first “CR” type site. Check it out if you get a chance. Hope I’m on the right track.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Hi Brian,

I listened to the interview and I’m not quite sure what to think.
The conclusion seems to be that Google doesn’t like affiliates and is trying to eliminate the weaker ones. That sounds quite harsh.
While my experience with Google is very short and half the time I don’t even know what I’m talking about it would appear to me that Google is trying to increase the standard and quality of websites. They have been taking their time to do this. I still can find sites that haven’t been updated for up to 6 months, have one or two posts and still are on the first page of Google. If a site has nothing on it except for a review page or two I would think that its value is indeed questionable and should be slapped sooner or later unless it indeed brings some tangible value. I will try to build sites with value and personally won’t fear Google as a monster but appreciate it for not settling for the mediocre stuff.

  3. I’m not sure what the take home message on this is. One comment on Perry’s blog post was that the “Slap” only affected sites that were misusing Google’s name – eg. “Googleslayer” kind of sites.

My impression is that others are not affected

  4. I think serious marketers will see this as an opportunity. It doesn’t take that much effort to avoid the slap if Dr. Livingston’s assumptions about what Google wants are right.

  7. Luckily my sites didn’t fall vistim to this latest slap but I’ve been there and experienced it before. Its not nice when it happens to you. The best advice I can give to avoid anything like this happening is to simply build a quality website full of useful information. If you do this you’re pretty much set and should be safe.

  8. I think Google changes its mind what it likes and what it doesn’t on a whim. I wish they would be more concrete with what they reward and won’t they don’t.

  9. Brian,

Thanks for sharing this informative interview with us. I think one of the biggest challenges facing us as Internet marketers is keeping up with the constantly changing rules. It’s really helpful to have experts like you keep us in the loop on this kind of stuff. Like others have mentioned and like your teaching suggests, the best way to avoid getting into trouble is to provide value to your customers and to always give the search engines what they want.

  10. I have only recently started to get into SEO so I am still learning and I don’t think anyone can ever know everything about Google, but to me that is part of the fun its like me against the machine.

I have and I am still learning a great deal from Brian & Alex, my personal thoughts are that Google should be treated like your partner, respect her and she will respect you back, abuse her and she will slap you silly.

  11. Thanks for the link Brian. Ive just been over to check out Net Frontier Marketing. Seems like a very comprehensive blog with some quality information. Shame he doesn’t use the commenters/comment plugins because he has some very interesting posts. I found “18 Things You Didn’t Know You Could Find on Ebay” very entertaining!

I really like the information you have given us. Thank you. I also own a blog that talks about affiliate internet marketing and I will definitly be posting a link to your site at all my blogs. Your information would be helpful to my members. Thanks, Jeff

  17. I remember getting my first Google slap a few months ago when I joined Google Conquest and had a site of mine delisted. I asked Google to review it and after about 6 weeks I was re-instated. While they were reviewing my site I actually took off all duplicate content, posted fresh original content and placed a number of outbound links to authority sites. The nicke was in the Forex market. When I first joined the conquest I did some sniping but am moving away from it and targeting niches now and my original niche network marketing as it has paid me a 5 figues income for months now. What I am going to do is target specific low hanging keywords to get more traffic and increase visitor levels. Will keep you posted as I go along. A big thank you to you Brian for getting em to where I am today.

  19. I think that as long as you have informative, relevant content on your site the way Brian teaches you will have no problem with Google.
