The famous and well-respected entrepreneur and motivational speaker, Jordan Belfort, explains his long history of financial troubles at an information seminar on marketing sponsored by Virgin Australia Airlines. Jordan admits that he could not manage his employees well at many junctures in his meat business.
He was eventually run out of business by his employees’ incompetence and his own inability to respond to it. Jordan explains how he had to beg for a job on Wall Street to be a stockbroker. He communicated his sales abilities to his employers who paid him little to run around New York City all day long. Jordan even had to sell costume jewelry on the side to support himself.
Jordan was out of a job when the stock market crashed in the late 1980s and was faced with the prospect of becoming a taxi driver like so many other stockbrokers. Jordan says how his wife was unaware of the challenges that the stock market was facing, which elicited a tremendously emotional and pessimistic response from Jordan.
