In this video clip from the “Ask Joel Comm” online video series, the renowned web marketing guru himself discusses business stability surrounding Google AdSense. The first point Joel makes is that Google is the largest search engine on the Internet. In 2007, they were projected to take in over fourteen billion dollars.
Google’s sheer size means that the company is highly unlikely to disappear, but even if it did, there is enough up-and-coming competition that can provide site publishers with plenty of options for income. Joel references the examples of Yahoo Publisher Network, which is still in its beta stage, as well as Microsoft’s version of AdWords, which is also under development.
Joel emphasizes that as long as you are creating content-rich sites, you will have “virtual real estate” that will have value in the long run that will increase day by day. Increasing competition in online advertising means that publishers will have more opportunities for making money.
