Google De Indexing BANS, PHPBay Sites
Back in 2007 I decided to target the ebay affiliate program using both BANS (build a niche store) and wordpress / phpbay powered websites. After about four months of solid seo and about 60 sites or so I had increased my monthly income by about $4000 to $5000 a month. Good times indeed, however as the popularity of both BANS and phpbay grew so did the amount of low quality auto generated websites that targeted the ebay affiliate program.
By mid 2008 I started to read posts about BANS sites getting deindexed and some of my phpbay / wordpress sites also took a hit. The goodnews today is that Wade the developer of phpbay has updated the plugin several times, the last update was to version 3.0 which gives no footprint at all of ebay, and thus can safe gaurd your earnings online.
I have created a video explaining various steps you can take to safe guard your ebay wordpress powered sites as much as possible.

Thanks for the great, up-to-date info, Brian. I looks like “BANS” has turned out to be quite an ironically named product. I am brand new to internet marketing, and had considered purchasing BANS. Fortunately, I have just signed on with the SEOPRESS formula !

Nice update and info. Staying on top of what Google likes is important and it looks like you narrowed it down pretty well.
Hey Brian thanks for the update!
Brian,
I have read your Post and review of Google De-indexing BANS and PHPBay sites.
A very concise report on what Google has done with these Niche sites.
My question concerns a website that I am working on. It is not a wordpress built site. It is a php based site with a Auctions link for eBay products. With the similar
layout style with an image and bid now | Add to watch list
There will be more more content on the site and not just focused on eBay. Do you see any problem with adding the Auctions link to the site.
I will be waiting for your response.
Thanks,
Gary Wittmuss
Gary,
Many of my sites that got hit also had additional content, in fact it was 100% unique. Just be aware of what is happening right now, possibly you can edit the php file that contains the scripting that is pulled from ebay?
Best. ..
Brian
@Brian, Gary, & every one,
I love posts like this; they are very helpful to new guys like me.
My question is this:
In the wake of the eBay/BANS event, it appears that eBay is being quite tough on new affiliate applicants. I’ve applied & ben turned down twice. Do you have any sugestions for those of who are currently trying to aquire eBay affiliate accounts?

Hi Brian-
Same issue with me and getting denied ebay affiliate status. But I haven’t tried through pepperjam yet. That is this week’s task. Wonder why they are not approving new folks so easily.
Mark
I had the issue with Ebay not approving my partner application and just kept applying using different emails each time. After 3-4 tries and a month they finally did approve it for some reason. But it had been denied a few times first. I don’t use PHPBay, but just the widgets provided by Ebay. I assume there is not an issue with sites using those being banned, if you have mostly content on your site with a few Ebay widgets thrown in?
Great information, I am an active BANS user, several of my sites sit on page 1, because, I believe of two reason, they are content rich and I took the the auctions of the home page and the sites jumped big time in SERPS.
Thanks!

Hi brian, if google bans all bans sites and decides that anything on your site has something to do with ebay affiliate say maybe you promote ebay and others your site and you get banned.would this situation and others like it start ebay gettin a bit pissed at google for drying up a small amount of their traffic
Well I would say it would probably not dry up all the traffic ebay gets. However it certainly would cause a hit to some degree.
Thanks for the information on phpbay. I was extremely discouraged when my BANS got deindexed and I was thinking of phpbay as an alternative. I didn’t even know they were “in danger”. If the guy updated the plugins, then that means he’s on the ball. I don’t know if the people responsible for BANS have cleaned up their footprint… I was just so disgusted I gave up for a few months. At least now, I feel more confident at giving EPN another go.

I know a few people who were using BANS but it had too many footprints and all their sites were getting whacked. They developed a new one without the footprint and its doing fine.

I heard something about this because one of my friends websites took a really huge hit. He was making a wonderful living online with phpbay sites. This really came at the wrong time.
Hi Brian,
It’s nice to having an ebay store online site. But a pity, I can’t get accepted by ebay affiliate networks.
Hope you will releasing a video about how to get accepted by ebay

I think it would be smart to have a look at the code of these softwares and see what you can change yourself to make it more unique.
I am just done with BANS and the PHP Pro – my income has been cut in half many times since their quality pricing, and to make things worse, they moved to quality click pricing which pays horrible for PHPBay sites, I have about 100 sites out there still making me some money though, not much, and about 80 of them are not even indexed, it is what it is and time to move on to other methods of making money online.

I got the Ban Hammer right after my site achieved a PR2 which didn’t make sense to me. I thought I was doing everything right because I was moving up slowly in the serps. Between being delisted and the new EPC structure I think it’s about time to let it go and move on and get serious with Amazon.

Hi Brian,
When I first started out I purchased both Phpbay Pro and BANS. While BANS sites are indeed very easy to launch for beginners Phpbay really is the way to go because it kind of pushes people to get comfortable with WordPress.
Thanks,
