How To Make Money?

Today online at a forum I hang out at somone post “just can not seam to make any money”. The forum I am at has some teaching online about targeting IM product launches, and while they can make you some nice money it is certainly not “the easiest” money to make online in my humble opion.

I thought I offered some good tips and ideas for those just getting started. I am going to past in my response in hope that it will help out some marketers that are ready to through in the towel.

My reponse:

Well it may seam easy from the outset, I will tell you that I put in lots of effort and I do not always earn money in each venture I test out. I do want to comment on something I have had in the back of my mind with the methods being taught here. Many of the players here were all excited about the *Googlizer* system or method when they came into players.

Now it has been mentioned that this method can also be applied to niches outside of IM, however I do not think I have seen many people try to crank out a site outside of IM.

Here is the issue I have with the Googlizer if your just getting started and can not seam to make things work.

1) Your entering into a very, very competative market. Your competing with about 1000 of frickin marketers that also understand this web 2 0 marketing tactic. Let’s not kid ourself here guys. The word is out, it is no longer “underground”. This means their will dozens of “hubs”, squidoo lens, blogger blogs, videos …and everyone one is using the same method.

2) You time is limited, the money is to be made on *launch day* … this means you need to know what your doing prior to getting started and you need to be able to launch stuff with near perfect on page seo already in place.

This is really not the time to learn, or correct something … the clock is ticking. You could spend a ton of time putting up a lens to find you forgot the meta description or your title tag features a **miss spelling** of the product name.

~ your toast ~

3) You manage to make several sale if thing go well, lets say you make 6 sale. Your all happy, then three days later the dreaded returns… you end up making at best around $200

For several weeks of effort.

Example:

I did a Googlizer for a Micheal Cheney product and got maybe 3 sales, one was returned. I made about $120. I spend about two days working on this project and could have maybe done better if I worked harder.

But for the amount of time you invest you could do much better by cranking out sites for very niche terms that have little compitiion. Then monetize via adsense. One bennefit is that the clock is NOT ticking. As long as your sending traffic you have a revenue stream.

Also, your not competing with about 90 other marketers …

I myself am doing another Googlizer right now for an IM product. But my goal is not so much to make money but to grow my list and to get on a leader board. I need other strong marketers to back me…..

One last story ….

I worked for nine months when I got started just trying to learn to launch a nice looking site while targeting the type of search terms I mentioned above. I did not even try to make money, I just wanted to teach myself how to make a solid looking page and how to target free search traffic.

Nine months I taught myself, not really thinking about the money. I knew if I could teach myself that skill the money would come.

It takes time in the beginning, hang in and try another route.

Additional Info:

What is this Googlizer stuff your speaking about?

The Googlizer is a core concept that Alex Goad used over the last several years to tap into large amounts of free traffic while piggy backing off internet marketing product launches. It involves quickly building a site around a product name and then pointing as many links to the site as  possible. Often times social networking sites, bookmarking sites and videos sites are using to build links to a site and further drive traffic.

Googlizer & Web 2.0 Traffic

Over the last 15 months or so I have really developed a certain style when it comes to creating strong compelling sites online. As the song goes “video killed the radio star” ….well in the next few years a new jingle will start appearing:

  • Video Killed Those That Did Not Adopt

Seriously, if your not doing video your really missing a huge opportunity to not only capture additional search traffic but your missing a chance to really be able to connect with your visitors. I first started doing video on a site I launched last year …

- Domain Parking Money

I had been wanting to get into video for sometime and was waiting for the camera and camcorder technology to catch up to the web. Then finally the flip camcorder became available, I remember reading out it in an issue of PC magazine.

I was at bestbuy the next day and picked up my flip, within several days I was hooked and quickly began to realize the power of video. These first videos I made for site Domain Parking Money had quite an impact on:

  • My Site Visitors (they loved them and begged for more)
  • Google, My Rankings On Google Continue To Climb
(I would attribute this to lots of unique content via text and video as well as hundreds of people syndicating my video content which points back to my site).

If you have been on the fence about video it is time to take action! It can really help you site rank and will allow your visitors to more easily connect with you.

Cheapest Way To Get Into Online Video

A reader of netmarketingcourse.net recently commented on the videos here at the site. I wanted to actually take the comment and make it into it’s own post here, video is important these days and can help sites rank fast in search engines like Google, Yahoo and Msn. Further more video makes it much easier for your visitors to connect to your site, I have found that my sites that utilize online videos are much sticker (visitors are more likely to *stick* around, visit more pages) and the return rate is much higher as well.

Here is Brett’s question about online video and getting started.

Brian,

I found you on Players With Money. Great video – I’m looking at a ‘cheap way’ to do video too… just wondering, did you film this with the Flip Camera, and if you did, how are you setting it up – mini-tripod on the desk, or on your monitor? Do you need additional lighting, or relying on external lighting from a window?

Thanks – keep up the great video content!

My Video Response

Gerry, a subscriber emailed in asked questions about duplicate content, ranking in Google and driving traffic to a site. Below you will find my video response.

The email I received from Gerry:

I loved SeoPressFormula but have a couple of questions. I am somewhat confused about duplicate content and getting traffic to the sites. One way to put the sites on automatic after they are built up to the target of 20 or 50 or whatever number of pages is to use RSS feeds or article feeds from directories such as ArticleMarketer.com or UniqueArticleWizard.com.

These, together with the AutoSocialPoster plug-in would pretty much keep the sites building and attracting new traffic with little or no attention. But this obviously introduces duplicate content which the sites are specifically designed to eliminate.

It is fairly easy to keep new content posted to only several sites but if you have a large number it is impossible without hiring people to do it. Many of us, especially us guys ( and gals) in our 70s just don’t want to work that hard or want all of the hassle of what easily becomes a full time job.

If we don’t use some kind of fresh content, duplicate or not, wont the sites just die off after awhile? Or do we keep article marketing and/or PPC campaigns going on forever? Do we do anything to capture emails or just go for the easy sale or click?

This has gone on too long! Sorry. Perhaps you could address some of these types of questions in the future videos or the pdf.

Regards,

Gerry

Google LSI & WordPress Categories (or content)

Google LSI has been a quite the buzz word for those that travel the webmaster forums and blogs. So what exactly is lsi and what does it mean to you and your website(s).

Bottom line: Google understands the correlation between some words.

More on LSI and what it means to you and your site rankings, talk first started about how Google would implement LSI into the algorithm back in about 2005 / 2006. While the term itself sounds highly technical and out of reach for the average webmaster the truth of the matter is this could not be furthest from the truth.

But before we go in-depth with Algo tweak lets take a second to think about why Google might have wanted to add this element to how Google indexes and further ranks pages. Back in 2004 and 2005 (stone ages in Internet world) ranking highly for given search terms was much a simpler and straight forward process.

Create a document that simply focus on one given keyword phrase, repeat the phrase over and over again (many call this keyword stuffing). That is part one, next simply point some inbound links to the given page with a variation of anchor text containing the main keyword phrase and *presto* a top ten ranking was achieved.

Case in point, back in 2003 or 2004 I spent about 15 hours creating a website that targeted a holiday niche around one keyword phrase. I linked out to one affiliate program and also included adsense. The site had about 40 pages or so targeting what I call “low hanging fruit” keyword phrases.

For a 5 week period the site rules Google and I made $25,000  ;-)

So Google thus began introducing LSI which allows a machine or computer program (ala Google) to ascertain how words related to one another and general themes between words. Gone are the days when Google would simply look for an occurrence of a singular keyword phrase.

Google now has the ability to understand that the following words (from my video example above) all relate to one another in some way shape or forum.

  • Halloween
  • Holiday
  • Ghost
  • Movie
  • Michael Myers
  • Costume
  • Horror

A great way to use the power of LSI is to insure your sites go wide by adding categories to your site focusing on LSI keyword phrases. Another method I use is to simply “link out” to other on topic sites using LSI keyword phrases. Is the Google duplicate content filter hurting your search engine rankings? The video below covers several issues including the dup content penalty as well as how wordpress handles your content.

Most people understand that using free content from article sites or even worse paid membership sites can often times hurt your search engine rankings online.

After all just what do the major search engines have to gain by indexing and ranking your content when they have already listed the same content?

The answer is nothing at all. Seriously.

However Google’s duplicate content filter also looks for duplicate content across one domain name. You might wonder how does the same content get listed on various sections of a website? Well, let’s take wordpress for example.

  • If you were to  post an article to more than one wordpress category you just created duplicate content.
  • If your categories render your entire post rather than the excerpt … yep, more duplicate content.
  • The wordpress archives again post that same article yet another section of your site.
  • How about the rss feed? Are you posting full posts or excerpts?

As you can see it is very important to make sure you set up your site in a way in which your NOT creating duplicate content across your site. Further more make sure the wordpress theme your using has address all of the above issues.

Why WordPress Over Static Webpages?

Their are numerous reasons why creating wordpress based websites (wordpress today is a full fledged cms system and not just for blogs) really makes sense. The included wordpress video below offers some of the things that drew me to this system.

One of the things I really like about working with wordpress is that you can optimize a wordpress theme for seo once and use that theme across different sites. Another reason for switching from static websites to wordpress is the ease of use. I love the fact that I can easily add content to my sites as long as I can get to the web, I also like that my sites are now interactive.

My visitors can:

  • Post comments on my articles
  • Trackback an article of mine from their site
  • Rate my content
  • And so on …

Are you ready to take full advantage of wordpress? Need some wordpress help?
